Paper Monkey Theatre Promo Video - The Nonya Nightingale
Year: 2026
Client: Paper Monkey Theatre
As part of a production team from Republic Polytechnic, we were commissioned by Paper Monkey Theatre to create a promotional video for their upcoming play.
My teammate handled cinematography while I took on the role of editor, shaping the narrative pacing and nostalgic tone as the character walks into her Peranakan home. The edit balances fast-paced promotional energy with story-driven emotional beats to reflect the heritage-inspired atmosphere of the play.
This promotional film was created to introduce the emotional world of the play through a visually driven narrative. The concept follows the protagonist as she walks into her Peranakan home, triggering a sense of nostalgia and memory through space, texture, and movement.
Although paced dynamically to capture audience attention, the storytelling remains intimate and reflective. The visual direction focused on heritage details — patterned tiles, warm lighting, traditional furniture — to evoke familiarity and cultural identity.
The edit balances fast-paced promotional energy with story-based progression, allowing viewers to emotionally connect with the character while maintaining theatrical intrigue.
A slow-motion, detail-oriented visual piece focusing on the creation of an iced matcha latte: from the matcha powder being measured, the ice being added, the pour of milk, the stirring — all captured with calm, cinematic atmosphere.
Since this is a solo project, I handled every part of the production:
Planned all shot angles, close-ups, and timing of movements.
Captured macro details like powder settling, ice texture, and milk swirling.
Used slow, stable movements to match the calm aesthetic.
Set up and adjusted the lighting to highlight the rich green matcha and clear reflections on the glass.
Used diffused, soft light to avoid harsh shadows and maintain a clean visual tone.
Controlled reflections and glare from glass/ice using angle adjustments and diffusion.
Performed all the actions on camera: pouring, measuring, stirring, placing props.
Practised movements to sync smoothly with camera positions and match the video's tone.
Edited pacing to achieve a quiet, calming flow.
Matched cuts to natural movement changes.
Colour-graded to bring out the matcha tones and keep the overall aesthetic cohesive.
Enhanced the minimal sound design to maintain a peaceful mood.
This short film was created for the Youth Against Scams competition, where my team and I produced a story highlighting how easily people can fall for deals that seem “too good to be true.” Through a mix of humour and awareness messaging, the video educates viewers on spotting red flags and staying safe online. Our entry won 2nd place in the competition.
A youth-focused short film created for the DrugFree.sg 2025 competition.
Our team produced a narrative that highlights how small daily choices can influence a person’s life path, showing the contrast between staying drug-free vs falling into negative influences. The story blends emotional storytelling with clear educational messaging.
I was involved in three key areas:
Camera: Operated the main camera for selected scenes, handled angles, stability, and framing based on the director’s vision.
Lighting: Assisted in setting up practical and artificial lighting to create mood consistency and natural shadows.
Acting: Performed in supporting scenes to help bring the narrative to life and enhance the emotional connection.
This is a short work-day vlog filmed and edited as a personal creative project. The video documents simple daily moments at work, captured in a casual, handheld style. The goal was to create a smooth, aesthetic sequence using basic shots and natural lighting.
I handled all aspects of production, including filming, selecting clips, pacing, and editing. The edit was completed entirely in CapCut, using light colour adjustments, simple transitions, and timing cuts to keep the vlog fast-paced and easy to watch. Ambient background audio and on-screen text were added to enhance clarity and personality without over-editing.
This project showcases my ability to film and edit lifestyle vlogs, maintain visual rhythm, and produce polished content using mobile-friendly tools.
